Welcome to another NationFusion movie review! This time, we’re diving into The Mortuary Assistant, a film adaptation that follows the base storyline of the game pretty closely. Fans will appreciate the attention to character details and backstories, along with some solid recreations of the game’s eerie environments. The set pieces and overall setting look great, capturing that unsettling mortuary atmosphere. There are also a handful of returning Easter eggs that longtime players will definitely recognize.

One of the strongest aspects of The Mortuary Assistant is its use of practical effects and CGI, both of which look surprisingly solid and help bring the horror to life. The film delivers some genuinely fun jump scares that feel true to the game’s tone. It also brings back the creepy grandmother figure, which is a great touch for fans. On top of that, there are several close callbacks and processes lifted straight from the game, making this one of the more faithful video game-to-movie adaptations we’ve seen.

Unfortunately, the movie does stumble in a few key areas. Some of the acting feels subpar, which can pull you out of the experience at times. There are also moments of awkward or unbelievable dialogue, with certain exchanges not translating well from the game’s format into a movie setting. Since you can’t “restart” a movie like you can in a game, some of those mechanics feel out of place here. Lastly, the flashbacks are a bit rough, often lacking proper context and feeling poorly executed.
Overall, The Mortuary Assistant is a decent horror movie that does enough to satisfy fans of the game. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but as far as video game adaptations go, it doesn’t disappoint. There’s definitely room for a sequel, especially if given a bigger budget and more polish. In the end, it’s not a bad watch—definitely worth a rent.
